  1. In light of this, it seems they have the right to make the film, but NOT distribute it... perhaps WB can sell it to FOX? Warner can decide how much they want to make from the film and use that figure as a determining factor in the settlement. OR Perhaps they could argue the definition of "distribute" and use some loop-hole? For instance, if distribution is defined as the traditional method of film distribution then maybe digital purchasing (setting up a website where everyone can download a digital copy for $1 or something of that order) might be something they want to consider...
  2. Guys, I can express how touched to hear you speak of bass in these terms. I don't think people realize how influential and powerful his stuff is and has defined modern design. The stark simplicity and iconic nature of his work influenced me before I even knew what the hell design was... Just recently I designed a logo and you can obviously see the Bass influence. The man redefined the language of iconography. Great thread.

  4. Yeah. That's the impression I got from our brief encounters over the years... Not at all an assuming figure, you seemed to project a more of a blue-collar/working class type attitude (and I say that with complete respect and reverence). Now that I'm thinking of it— it's remarkable that Bradstreet hasn't pegged you to produce a piece for Bad Planet (I hate to throw that out there-not knowing if it's a contentious issue or not); but it seems obvious to me that something of that order should happen at some point... Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to this book-should be a treat.
  5. Oh, this is definitely going to be a treat! I hope this sells out, then gets reprinted successively until your grandkids are out of college, Joe... But uuhhh... how come you didn't call it "Requiem" or "Solstice" or anything like that? :-) Seems to be the trend for these sorts of things...
  6. I understand they're remaking Robocop for 2010, seems pretty pointless to revisit a film that's such a cult classic...
  7. I always get this inexplicable exuberance when I hear of the next batch of big films. It's really a strange sensation— they're just movies, right? It's almost as if I feel that if I watch the perfect film, in the perfect venue it'll be like the mothership from Close Encounters taking me aboard... But on the other hand, I honestly believe that film (especially television), influences the way we perceive and deal with the world; the imagery and ideas in popular media are heralds of the cultural zeitgeist. Uh, anyway... I'm modestly interested in the Wolverine film (don't t

  9. Perhaps we may see a podcast with this Romano-guy somewhere down the line? Seems like a real interesting character with lots of creative energy...
  10. I share the same sentiment! Ironically, I just wrote something about that in another thread (more appropriate here, though). "You know, I was looking at these pictures and it struck me that Tom played Todd from Boogie Nights... I just checked and confirmed that... I know I'm pretty late to the game—but my hats off to you Tom for that character. I've partied with people like Todd and I really connected with that character... all high and fucked up doing crazy shit. I really enjoy the "Lovable Loser" or "Fall guy in over-his-head" type characters and for some reason cannot stomach the

I really enjoy the "Lovable Loser" or "Fall guy in over-his-head" type characters and for some reason cannot stomach the heroic archetypes. I think you also may have been good in the role Josh Brolin played in No Country for Old Men (although Josh kick
  12. I still get chills when I see that Hulk cover— it totally traumatized me as a kid... the recreation is quite nice, too. If I recall correctly, the interior to that particular issue was done by the legendary Alfredo Alcala. Back in those days there was nothing finer than than picking up and issue of Hulk or Savage Sword with a Jusko cover and a Buscema interior inked by Alcala... It's a shame we don't have anything comparable to those books today.
  13. Thought I'd chime in rather than continue to lurk... :-) Well, I enjoy developing ideas/concepts... but I never really think in terms of film development- mainly for comics and animation (things which I could conceivably do myself). Have you ever considered developing your ideas as online comics? It seems that these days a successful (or reasonably original) comic is always looked at as a potential film option...

  17. I think the film will definitely come out- the question is will FOX get a piece of it. If the courts decide that FOX is legally entitled to a portion of the box-office; they'll do everything in their power to ensure that the movie is a success. If the courts decide that FOX is only entitled to the sum of the licensing rights it originally bought then they'll bog the movie down in red-tape and legal injunctions (if they can). I think it's interesting (i.e., deceptive) that FOX didn't present its case to the courts until the film was completely shot and in post-production. This tells me tha

  19. When I drew this I thought that this guy was a future soldier saving a kid in a Cambodian war zone.
  20. original story interior art. A new officer has been reassigned to a shit-hole sector of Mars near a mining facility. The guy in the cab comments that it feels to good to see a down-right regular normal human being. The female replies with a comment like,"What makes you think I'm normal?"
