HUNG

Recommended Posts

The 10 Most Promising Upcoming TV Shows

4. Hung (HBO)

It’s not TV, it’s HBO. At least that’s what it used to be. Cable channel HBO had a streak of bad luck with everything new they offered since “The Sopranos” went off the air. Nothing really drew that much attention to them since then outside of “The Wire”, not even cult hit “True Blood”. But every streak of bad luck has to end eventually and we bet on our sanity that their summer offering “Hung”, a show about a desperate high school teacher who becomes a male escort, might do the trick. It’s a concept we haven’t really seen on TV before and the first trailer looked surprisingly funny and charming.

Link to article about HBO's marketing of Hung - Facebook, contest, etc...:

The article states that HBO will be marketing Hung on Facebook and have an

advertisement-creating contest that will start after the premiere of the series.

""Our strategy was to focus on the more unexpected aspects of the story," said

Chris Spadaccini, vice president of advertising and promotion. "Ray [played by

Thomas Jane] is becoming a male gigolo because he has to, not because he wants.

And we really wanted the audience to empathize with this man who is willing to

do whatever it takes to turn his life around."

So HBO will enlist consumers to help Ray pull himself up by his bootstraps via a

Pimp Ray microsite and Facebook contest.

Users create their own ads to help Ray build his client base. The best ad, as

voted on by the Facebook community, wins a $10,000 prize."

Time magazine online has a short article about Hung for their Summer Arts

Preview:

"...to start, "Hung" does not refer to execution, drapes or an infamous American

Idol auditioner. It is, ahem, an adjective."

PS Yahoo Groups, the new message system there is getting on my nerves right now, because

they're only showing the original message, and then any new replies to a message aren't shown

right away, but are down the "tree" of links/repies, so it's now hard to tell what a new or older

message is, I think... Okay, sorry to vent about this here and not over there, but I know many

of you read the messages at my TJ 2 Yahoo Group as well as here, and it's getting a tad confus-

ing at Yahoo Groups now...

Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on with that, except that I think that page isn't active at the moment, and it will only work once the premiere of Hung is shown, then the ball gets rolling, so to speak (oh, man, I am so sorry for that!)...

Good things coming for HUNG.

Talked at length with Tom today who is in Detroit wrapping up the final 2 days of production on the first season.

He'll be back in the swing on the boards here real soon and has some surprises in store for us.

He's extremely excited about all the buzz and very proud of the show.

Expect to see him surface here soon.

I think he'll start a new thread from his own perspective, still working out details.

HUNG is a fantastic opportunity to introduce TJ to a whole new audience and to help build his fanbase as an actor.

I'm sure it's been reported here that HBO thinks so much of HUNG that it will be airing directly after True Blood during the upcoming season. I'm a huge fan of that show and things are about to ramp up and get exciting all the way around. 2009 has already had it's share of shit. Now it's time to put all that behind us and have some fucking fun again.

Diggit.

Yeah, and no pun intended, Detroit looks like a fucking warzone.

I asked Tom if he planned on catching up with Hensleigh and company but he's just too busy.

Also, did anyone else notice that Bronwen Hughes (Stander) directed at least one episode of Hung?

How cool is that. ;)

I was shocked! Detroit was featured on the latest episode of LIFE AFTER MAN and they didn't need any CGI. Entire neighborhoods are deserted and filled with nothing but block after block of collapsing abandoned buildings. Makes occupied France look like Palm Beach.

Here's a cool article from a blogger in the entertainment biz (I think?) who

talks about Tom 'n' a bit about Hung:

"Jane is who is one of those actors that people have been saying "is on the cusp

of superstardom" for years now. Nobody seems to get why this guy isn't a huge,

huge celebrity. He's good-looking, talented, and seems to posses all the

qualities of a major star."

Excited to hear the news about HUNG, TB. I'm dying to see this. I've been noticing a LOT of ads for True Blood recently around LA, and I"m hoping that they'll start very soon advertising for HUNG. I really hope to see a big push for it the way they've been doing for True Blood.

And that is really cool to see that Bronwen Hughes directed an ep of the show. Should be great.

Can't wait to see the show, and to see more of Thomas back here on the boards and hear his take on his first foray into series television. Should be fun.

Exciting times for Thomas and Patricia, with his show starting and with her show's move to CBS. Good things for all of them, I hope.

There is some Hung stuff showing up on Facebook.

Hung Facebook page

There is a trailer #2 here that has new scenes. At least I haven't seen them before. It is in a large format, though, and my old computer can't quite handle it. So if anyone knows where I can find trailer #2 in a smaller format, please post the link.

Thanks.

I saw that too, k-skye. It looked even better than the first one. Had more scenes with Thomas and Anne Heche, and a little more from the "self-help seminar". Plus a few more. I can't remember them all right now.

I haven't seen that anywhere else though, sorry. Hope you can find it somewhere so you can see it.

Only nine more days till the show's premiere!! I can't wait.

Oh, I have to share this. I thought it was TOO funny! Just to show what kind of buzz this show is getting, yesterday at work, I'm having a conversation with a couple of other ladies, and the subject of television came up, and one of them started saying that she was totally hooked on HBO, that that was the only reason she paid for cable, and we start talking about what great show they have and which ones are our favorites.

So I casually mention that they have a new show coming up that I'm really psyched about, and someone asks what it is.

I say, "Hung."

Immediately, one of them goes, "OhmiGod! I want to see that too! That guy is SOOO hot!!"

I had to smile. She didn't even know his name, but she's already hooked on the show because of him.

I think this show is gonna do for his career what Medium did for his wife's, that is, propel him from being "Oh, yeah, isn't that ...?" to "Holy crap, where did this guy come from and where has he been?"

And it's about time. :P

Finally starting to see a promo push for this. Ads are starting to appear on bus benches all over LA. A friend in NYC told me he saw one on the side of a building, lol! Glad to see that HBO is really behind this.

The NY Times article made an interesting observation that HBO is banking on this being the next Sex and the City, and not just a niche show with a cult following or a critical fave that no one watches. I hope this turns out to be true.

I'm loving the HBO promos though. They're a hoot!
