Already got mine, well, a custom RAW one anyway 👍

I don’t usually like to stand out in a crowd but more than happy to make an exception in this case! 😉

Being pretty tall, it kind of happens naturally for me! That said, I'm generally not keen on being the centre of attention - it's not a lack of confidence thing, I just prefer to quietly skulk! 😂

Ha, Maybe I can knock you all up some "RAWarriors on Tour" T shirts like a concert one with the dates on.

As it stands right now Thomas will be there both days and Ill be there behind the scenes.

Ha! That would be epic, Geoff - thank you! ♥️

It sounds terrific! I am so happy for you. It's such a relief to know where to move to and if it's a big step up, then enjoy everything you can!

Thank you, Ariane! And yes, I suspect that we'll be thoroughly enjoying living there!

Oh Nicole - that all sounds too fabulous!!  It sounds like serendipity has given you everything you were looking for and more, and I couldn’t be happier for you both 😘. I hope all goes well with the move, and that you’ll be very happy in your new surroundings.  I can just imagine you lying in wait for the postman to watch letters drop on the mat for the first time! 😁

Thank you! Oh yes, that letterbox will be to me what windows are to house cats! 😋

I'm at the stage now where I just want to get on and do things but I have organised everything! Notifications of change of address to everyone I can think of, and post redirection set up for any I've forgotten. New accounts and direct debits set up for fuel, water, council tax, broadband, etc. Notice given to old accounts. Removals firm booked, cleaner for this place booked for the 23rd (because Covid regulations say I have to deep clean everything in advance of the removals guys coming), oven cleaner booked because why the heck not?! And unlike when we moved into this place, I am not leaving a disgusting mess for the next people to have to clear up. 🙄

I've packed up my antique china, and my Asian tea sets - they'll be coming with us on the 20th, along with the houseplants but there's no point doing anything with the plants until the 19th. I've de-cluttered, packed up most of my clothes, barring those I've left out to wear, and the only thing really left to do is make sure all our old paperwork is shredded. I've got way ahead of my work, so that I can take a week off from the 24th, so now I just want to be off! Ha ha!

Here's a somewhat anally-retentive thing though, the Covid rules for removals firms state that only one family member may be present while the removals guys are here. Even though they are working with people outside their bubbles every day. They can go to the pub, to restaurants, shops, cinemas, gyms, etc, and mingle with other people, yet can only have one person here while moving our stuff, despite them - and us - wearing PPE. I'm really not sure whether the rules are for their safety or ours! Maybe both.

Oh, and they can use our kettle and milk but they have to supply their own mugs, sugar, spoons, and tea bags. That makes no sense!

I do appreciate that precautions must be taken, and we will obviously abide by the rules - as we've done (very strictly) since March - but this is a great example of how really, no one knows what the heck they are doing. The advice is so contradictory; stay in, go out, socialise, don't socialise, eat out, go to the pub, keep your distance, go to work, stay home, the law says you have to mask up but shopkeepers and transport drivers don't have to enforce it... And so on!

K has said he's happy to stay here to supervise but what am I supposed to do for 6 hours? I honestly have no idea! I could take my laptop, and go and do some work in the local café, maybe, but not for that length of time, plus it doesn't open until 10.30, and the removals are coming at 9. I have no friends around here I could visit. I did... but she is now in Guadeloupe, working on Death in Paradise! I did consider visiting my son but that's not going to work, either. I may just end up taking a book and a picnic to the beach. Assuming it doesn't rain, of course!

First world problems, eh? Ha ha!

  3. So, I have big news - so big in fact, that it deserves its own post! 😋

We pick up the keys to our new home next week!

Cool, eh? But wait, there's more! Ha ha!

We'd found three houses we liked the look of, so booked viewings. Two of them proved that the camera really can lie! However, this wasn't a problem because it meant it was easy to make a decision about them. One of them looked beautiful in the photos but in reality, it was filthy, full of damp, and far, far smaller than the photos and floorplan suggested.

The third house was stunningly beautiful. About 10 mins further away from K's mum than we'd planned but we discovered that by looking just across the Cambridgeshire border to North Essex, we could get so much more bang for our buck.  This one, in Saffron Walden, was 15th century timber-beamed farmhouse right next door to superb (and quiet) public formal gardens. It was perfect in every way but slightly out of our budget. We could have made it work though, so things were looking up!

But.... we had an outlier still to look at. It came up at the very last moment - and it was the house that K was living in when we first met, almost 18 years ago! Weird, eh? Thing is, I don't actually know how I found it because it's about 10 miles outside the search radius I had put into RightMove. Apparently (and how about this for serendipity), the landlord had signed a contract with the MOD to have one of their officers live there for the duration of his posting but the last moment, said officer was unable to take the house.

We hastily arranged a viewing, and the landlord remembered K. Rather fondly, as it turned out.

We honestly didn't think the house would be big enough - thought it would just end up being a nostalgia trip but we completely got the warm fuzzies. Not just from the memories but because it just felt right. A total Goldilocks moment! It's immaculately clean and newly decorated (neutrals, yay!), with a new bathroom suite, washer/dryer, and fridge-freezer. And it's in a lovely, quiet rural location. ♥️ Oh yes, and it has a large shed, so I'll have somewhere to tinker!

Spent about an hour having a chat with the landlord, during which time he and his wife said they'd be more than happy to have us move in. They also told us that if we did, one of the conditions would be that we have to help them eat their home-grown veggies. What a hardship! 😋

We spoke to K's mum to see if she'd have any objection to us being a little further away (this house is about 15 mins' drive further), and she had none at all. In fact, she pointed out that if we took the house, we'd be almost exactly halfway between her and my daughter. At the moment, L is 2,5 hours away - once we move, she'll be 30 mins. Naturally, she is over the moon!

Needless to say, we went for it, and signed the contract a week later. We pick up the keys on the 20th (and drop off my houseplant jungle - because planty priorities!), move out of our flat on the 24th, and into our new home on the 25th. I am soooo bloody excited! Not least because I'll finally have my own office.

Plus - and I realise this is going to sound incredibly dull but you don't realise how much you take these things for granted until you no longer have them... a garden, a washing line, a bathroom with a window, and a letterbox in our front door. We've spent eight years having to collect the post from pigeonholes, lockers, or the local store - it will be so nice to have it drop onto our mat! Ha ha! I'm sick of having to dry the laundry indoors on clothes horses dotted about our already-small flat. Not having a window in the bathroom is really not good, especially when the're no extractor fan. There's precious little natural light and airflow in this flat as it is, and right now it's like an oven. I am really looking forward to having a garden again, and windows that open properly, and fresh air!

OK, I'm going to stop gushing now, and get back to work!

Wow Nicole - you’ve got it all going on at the moment!! I’m exhausted reading it so I can only imagine how you must be feeling!  Good luck with the house finding/moving situation, that can be pretty stressful at the best of times so I hope it all comes together fairly quickly for you.  And huuuuuge congratulations to your daughter, that’s lovely news and really something to look forward to in the confused times we’re all going through. When is she due?  And how does your grandson feel about having a little brother or sister?  I truly hope all goes well for them.  I’m sure all the RAWarriors will join me in sending her very best wishes xx

Thanks so much, Gail! She's due on February 17th, and R is absolutely thrilled at the prospect of being a big brother! ♥️

Nothing much to report from my neck of the woods - work is mental busy but home life is ticking over nicely atm.  Beloved has received notice that he’s being referred to see if he can have a bionic knee fitted - hope so cos it sounds like a bag of gravel recently and is causing quite a bit of pain for him 🙁 And we all know men are the worst patients!  So fingers crossed that’s sooner rather than later but will have to see what with the current state of the NHS 🤷‍♀️

Oh gosh, that sounds incredibly painful for him. Has he heard anything about an appointment yet? I really hope it happens soon. xx

Hi Nicole ! Wow it seems someone just pushed you into cold water from the 10m jump board. 3 months is a short period of time but on the other hand (speaking as someone not enjoying to pack/move/unpack)... it'll be quickly over. I have my fingers crossed for you!

Pretty much, yes! Ha ha! And thank you!

Excellent idea! Here again crossing my fingers! I have a soft spot for astrophysics since, well, always. Have you seen that 3D map of the universe in the news today?

I did see it - pretty cool stuff!

@Nicole Blimey a lot going on as the others said. Hope you find somewhere good.  I had my second when my oldest was 12, seemed good at the time but now they're always at each other's throats. I think having the older one around all day doesn't help too much. Best wishes for your daughter though and hope it all goes smoothly, definitely more worrying if there's been complications before.

Oh dear! How old are yours now? And thank you - right now, her main concern is a painful cyst that's getting larger. She has a fantastic midwife though, who is incredibly supportive, and is pushing for L's gynae consultation to be brought forward.

On 7/21/2020 at 11:40 PM, CJ Mitchell said:

Still no word from my son's place of work of when he can go back, which now has my Mum saying stuff like well he hopes they do take him back and what if they don't - as if we've not got enough to worry about. Kinda get fed up with her putting our stressful thoughts into words.

Oh, that's rather unfair of your mum! It's understandable for her to feel like that but it would be better if she kept those things to herself (IMO). Has your son heard anything yet?

Good news is our Butlins Holiday is going ahead, (This is an entertainment resort near the seaside with small apartments, rooms, etc - for our USA friends), 17th August for 5 days. We thought we weren't going to be able to go and was going to cancel it to save money but decided we really need the break now and want to get away for a few days, even if we don't go to all the entertainment. Be nice just to see other places and get fed without worrying about the washing up etc.

Ooh, only a few days to go. I bet you can't wait! I've not been to a holiday camp since I was a teenager (used to go to rock n roll weekends near Great Yarmouth). Loved going to Butlins with my grandparents when I was a child, so much fun! I imagine it's all changed quite a bit now, though. Which one are you going to? Really hope you have a lovely time, and that you're able to be super-relaxed! xx

Exclusive: ‘The Expanse’ Lands Early Season 6 Renewal at Amazon

We have learned some exciting news for The Expanse fans! Amazon has decided to renew the sci-fi series for a sixth season. This decision has been made before season 5 has even premiered.

Pre-production on season 6 started today. Production on the fifth season already wrapped back in February, before the Coronavirus shutdown.

    OMFG... **fans self** Yayyyyyyy! 🥳

Thanks Ariane - love your internet stalking skills! ♥️ 😋

  7. I just.... thought I'd give you all a quick update (if you're interested)!

The move is afoot! Our dithering bluff has been called by our landlord, who wants to sell our flat, so we've been given until October 30th to get the hell out of Dodge! 😂 We discussed selling our house, and buying another but a) we'd have to ask our friends, who are renting from us, to vacate - that seems mean, b) there really wouldn't be enough time.

Our friends (C & R) are planning to move overseas next year anyway so that C can finish her astrophysics doctorate, and then join the ESA... which being here would be difficult to do. So we'll sell our house when they move out. In the meantime, we're going to rent one.

We're going to stay with K's mum next week - which will be the first time we've seen her for months, of course - and will be viewing properties over the weekend. A couple we were supposed to be looking at have already gone (grr!), which is a big shame because one was literally a 10 minute walk from my MIL. But que sera sera! As much as I'd love to move ASAP (because I am impatient!), we do have three months to find somewhere, and the market changes so rapidly, our perfect home could be just weeks away.

I feel a bit like Harry and Ron trying to get a date for the Yule ball right now though! 😋

In other news, my daughter is expecting her second child. Bit of a surprise as she was told it would be unlikely she'd be able to have any more. R is 12 now, so he really is going to be a big big brother! I couldn't be happier for her, although I am slightly nervous because she's had several miscarriages. But once we move, we'll be geographically closer, so at least I can be a bit more available if she needs me.

So that's me - what have you all been up to? xx

Ha!  Nicole, you’ve just very eloquently raised all the points that occurred to me but I was too tired to articulate last night 😴   Can’t dispute the Miller-love though🥰

WTF?????!!!!!  Have they even seen the show???😲. Good to see that the Pop Culture Times have their finger firmly on the pulse!!! 🙄

Oh, no one could, and should, dispute the Miller love. Not ever. Not even a little bit! 😋

I suspect that Pop Culture 'piece' may be bot-written. Even so, a humie must have put in some keywords... a humie who clearly knows nothing about The Expanse! 😂

    2. Thomas Jane (and his hat) are revelations.

Look, if you first saw an image of Thomas Jane in his fedora and thought, "NOPE. TOO CORNY,"

I have never seen Miller wear a fedora. 😋

on the force, with the crew of the Canterbury, or really anywhere he goes.

"... on the force, with the crew of the Rocinante, or really anywhere he goes."

Fixed it! The Cant was long gone by the time Miller meets the crew at the Blue Falcon.

    17 hours ago, Enaira said:

And through it all, Miller keeps with him his trademark hat

Except he doesn't! He leaves it in his hole when he leaves Ceres, and doesn't don it again until he becomes The Investigator - hence Holden asking him about the hat because when Miller was alive, none of the crew of the Roci ever saw him wearing it! And technically, Holden never sees Miller wearing the hat because The Investigator isn't Miller, it's just the protomolecule assuming a familiar form... and why there's the distinction between it and the real (Proto)Miller on Ilus. And why it's Miller (who always appears hatless) who helps destroy the artefact, and not The Investigator.

I know I'm being pedantic but I do wish people who are paid to do a job would do it properly! That said, overall, it's not a bad article at all!

And certainly not as bad as this piece of dren. 😂😂😂😂

Not too much really (wasn’t feeling 100%), my lovely work family spoiled me on Thursday with flowers, gifts and even a cake with candles (but not the traditional one for each year, didn’t want to set the fire alarms off! 😉😁) so just had a nice relaxing day with my beloved.  Hopefully we’ll be able to have a break away later in the year to make up for it 🤞.

Glad you had a chilled day with 'im indoors! 😋 Flowers, cake, pressies... how lovely! Hope you manage to get away soon!

Oh Nicole that sounds like a lovely day you’ve got right there!  Enjoy lovely - your grandson’s gonna love you!  x😘

It was a lovely day but utterly exhausting! At the best of times, we live a very quiet life, even more so thanks to the lockdown. It was a bit of a shock to the system to suddenly have three more people in my home, two of whom spoke constantly! There was a lot of catching up to do... and much laughter! My grandson is lovely, and seems to be very much like me in that he is really quiet. 😂

I'm currently wishing I'd prepped a bit better for work, and made sure I could take today off to recover!
