Set in an apocalyptic medieval world, this is the story of a band of brothers whose quest is to hunt down a necromancer against the backdrop of the first outbreak of bubonic plague in England. A young monk is sent to investigate rumors of people being brought back to life, meanwhile a mercenary arrives in the same village. Against the backdrop of the peaceful village lies a pact with the forces of darkness, orchestrated by the village ruler.

Black Death is another upcoming medieval flick with some fine british talent involved. Directed by Christopher Smith it stars Sean Bean, Carice Van Houten, Eddie Redmayne, David Warner, Kimberley Nixon and John Lynch. The UK release is on February 25, 2010 and there are a couple of new images that appeared online:

This was reported on earlier but I cannot remember if there was a dedicated thread or if it was only mentioned in some kind of upcoming films thread.

And indeed it may have even been SOTD that laid the first peek on us.

Regardless, I do remember seeing the movie poster here and this film does look very interesting.

Be sure to check out that link as there are lots of pix and they all look rather scrumptious.

Love to see a trailer for this.

Here's that movie poster again - Bean featured -

Here's the logline -

Medieval England has fallen under the shadow of The Black Death.

In this apocalyptic world, filled with fear and superstition, a young monk called Osmund is charged with leading a fearsome knight, Ulric and his group of mercenaries to a remote marsh.

Their quest is to hunt down a necromancer - someone able to bring the dead back to life.

Torn between his love of God and the love of a young woman, Osmund discovers the necromancer, a mysterious beauty called Langiva.

After Langiva reveals her Satanic identity and offers Osmund his heart's desire, the horror of his real journey begins....

This looks like the same kind of set-up as Hannibal Films/Give 'Em Hell Malone

I was checking out Zephyr Films website and it looks like the same kinda deal.

They raise $ and have these films shot with the idea of selling in the film market.

Currently they have no distribution deal and if you can believe their website (cause people don't always update them) it states that they are still in principle photography.

Well I hope it's good and that we see it soon.

If anyone hears anything we'd all appreciate an update, THANKS!

Nice, thanks for the video! Looks pretty dark and authentic. They basically talk about the filming location, the good working conditions and the old buildings that still exist there.

I looked at the website from Egoli Tossell Film, the production company, and it says that the film was shot on locations in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany) from April through June, 2009. It's a German-Bristish co-production. They list it under Completed Films and as in postproduction.

Another positive review:

Black Death should be in British theatres since 28th May, 2010. It is distributed in GB by Revolver Film. The German release will be in late summer of 2010. The film is distributed in Germany by Wild Bunch/Central Film.
