johnpweber 0
I just saw the Dan O'Bannon passed away. This is a sad day for sci-fi lovers. O'Bannon is remembered most for writing Space Beast (after re-writes it would become Alien), Total Recal, Dark Star, Life Force and Return of the Living Dead. O'Bannon has been part of my life since I was about 9, he was the first screenwirter I had ever heard of (it was the first time I realized films had scripts). Very sad indeed. http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=26564
Padre 0
The simplest way to sum up his contribution to cinema: Without him, no chestbuster scene. Even without that films like Return of the Living Dead, Total Recall and Dark Star are classics in their own right. R.I.P
jayesse8 0
Damn. RIP Dan O' Bannon. I have indeed enjoyed his sci fi fare, but I also enjoyed Blue Thunder. Was he any relation to Alien Nation's (among other credits) Rockne S. O'Bannon?
Tim Bradstreet 0
Dark Star, Alien, Dead And Buried (one of my fave horror films), Heavy Metal, Lifeforce (a cult fucking classic), Blue Thunder, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD! We all have our favorites. O'Bannon will be deeply missed. I remember speaking in depth with William Stout (who production designed Return) about O'Bannon and Stout fairly worshipped the guy as a creative partner. Our favorite genres definitely took a monumental hit when Dan lost his battle with Crohn's disease. To my knowledge there is no connection by blood to Rockne S. O'Bannon. See ya sometime in the future Dan.
