Music: what are you currently infatuated with?

Recommended Posts

Hot Chip - Night & Day directed by the talented & hilarious Peter Serafinowicz is wildly addictive. Plus, it's got a cool intergalactic dance party going on.

Fans of Terence Stamp should definitely watch this video. :P

Damn, I wish my local comic store was not so far away. Months ago, on a whim, I picked up a book called Monocyte. Amazing stuff. Just really cool. Still need to pick up the last issue. After reading issue #1, to the back and there was hidden in the fine print, an advertisment for a companion album for the book. I was intriged. I looked it up, and found it to be cheap at the time. I think it was $5.99 on iTunes that first week. The music was just as good as the book.

Doing a bit of research, the guy who wrote and did the art on the book also was the leader of the band. Menton J Matthews III, or Menton3 is the man behind it all, and I got to say, this guy is going to be someone to watch. The band is called Saltillo. After listening to Monocyte, I picked up their first album, Ganglion. It has now become one of my favorite albums. It's got a cool, Trip-hop vibe to it. Here are a few of my favorite tracks:

It's so hard to find good music today... that's fresh and different...

I have a suggestion 'The Antlers' for people who have never checked them out before...

I got them off of Hung as well as 'The Black Keys' of course.

These two are my fav's from them...

I said I wouldnt do it but curiousity got the better of me. Slash's new record with Myles Kennedy is the best thing he's done since the Use Your Illusion discs. I gotta admit I was blown away.

The band Caribou does sound really good. I'm a big fan of Electro-pop, so they're right up my alley.

I’m into Gotye. He has a great voice, and his music videos are fascinating to watch. I bought his album Making Mirrors just to have “Somebody That I Used To Know” and ended up enjoying all of his songs. Especially love “Smoke And Mirrors” & “State Of The Art.”

Just finished reading "A Very Irregular Head" by Robert (?) Chapman. It's a biography of Syd Barrett, the original guiding light of Pink Floyd. It was beautifully written and put Syd in, what I consider, the proper context. Finally a story that rises above the "He was mad as a loon!" Syd stories and gets right into where Syd was coming from and why he really had to be released from Pink Floyd and how and why he fell from being a trully gifted Artist into the emotional and depressed wreck he sadly died as.

And so I've been hardwired into Pink Floyd. Last night I put on the headphones and listened to Dark Side of The Moon. Next week I take my son to see Roger Waters perform The Wall. My son is a Floyd fanatic.

I used to get high and just nod off to Floyd, drifting softly on David Gilmour's beautifully smooth, rich tone to land in the thick pillows of Wright's magnificent keyboard work but now I can really hear the work that went into it. It's not so much complex as it is, very often, masterfully structured. It's meant to push and pull you emotionally to do something more than dance. Maybe to simply feel and to just be ok with that, with just doing that.

I'm glad you guys liked my recommendation :)

A little tid bit...

Spending most of my summers every other year in Europe. I'm always enjoying what they play and what I'm hearing over there. So every time I'm there now I am always checking it out.. what's new & fresh and that's different.

Well thank God for the web now because when I'm not there I am always checking out the European charts here (years ago you were not able to do that). For example Adele and Goyte -- I knew them a year before they came to North America.

I thought I would share.. What can I say I love music (especially different)... always in search of great tunage :)

This is pretty good too! Sounds Euro-ish (if that is even a word) When I heard this it reminded me of this DnB song:

I was just listening to a song by norman greenbaum called the spirit in the sky. It was from the 70's and yes I listen to some 70's music but coming from a family of 10 and being the youngest I grew up on 60's and 70's music. From my older sisters and brothers. I also liked it when the band doctors and medics redid it in the 80's. :)

I know isn't it great... I purchased this song. You feel it in your bones when Rusty sings.

I love it when a song describes exactly how they feel.

Been listening to an oldie tune station lately and it's just awesome...

It's amazing how one song can bring you back to a period in time...I was only only 6 when this song came out but my older cousins always had this playing...total flashback.
