I checked out Wanted last night. Not too bad, it was a fun popcorn flick with some dark humor (the best kind). I was really digging the gun designs that they had, I only wish they would have used some of the more intrecate ones though. I still have not got around to reading the source material, so I'm not sure how much it matches up, I've heard mixed reviews on that end, some say yes, others say way off.

My only gripe for the film is the camera work/editing. I'm not really a fan of the fast editing, shakey camera work mostly because you can't see what the hell is going on. Some times it's appropreate, sometime not. Paul Greengrass does some wonderful stuff with this although not all the time. There were a few scenes in Bourne Supremacy that drove me nuts. Wanted was filled with this kind of stuff. For me, less than half of it worked, the rest of the time I felt like they were just clinging to a cleche' method. Over all, if you like action and guns, check it out. It's not a bad way to spend an evening.

Here's the thing with this film, it's got some retarded shit in it, basically either you embrace it or you don't. I was able to embrace it and had fun watching it.

WAY off the source material. Was his dad filming gay porn in his introduction? Was there a league of supervillians who had successfully killed all the superheroes? Was Jolie killing innocent people by the scores? Was there a gotafucking character by the name of Mr. Rictus (ahem...who "makes love" to goats)?

Probably not...

I'll see it on video.

I read the comic and I did not like it. So I won't be seeing this on the big screen, I will catch it on dvd or cable, but that is it.

...and can Jolie get any skinnier and nastier looking...yeesh...

I did catch, HANCOCK today though...damned good. Is there a Hancock thread?

yeah, that's exactly how I felt about From Dusk Till Dawn. At first it made me cringe then...it made me cringe harder. I thought it sucked. But after accepting George Cloony and 'embracing' cheap ass vampires- I had fun watching it.

If you hated the comic, you'll probably like the movie. Much less disturbing.

I think they make some of the characters likable.

Yeah, Wesley isn't a raping sociopath in it. You could say this movie falls in the revenge category.

It wasn't really the characters in the story or the fact that the villians had won. It was the fact that the writer couldn't suprise me with the story. I think, that he felt as readers we were all just dumb bastards. It could have been a pretty cool twist but the writer just didn't pull it off. I had pretty much figured out that the father wasn't really dead early on in the reading. And then when I got to the hook, " I'm getting old and Nobody has the right to kill me but my own son"? It just didn't make semse to me. That kind of ego...I don't know, maybe would kill it's self before it let ANYBODY else kill it. Kings and tyrants alike have historically butchered there own to hang onto power until there last dying breath. The whole kill me and take up my mantle thing just didn't work for me.

The fact that the movie changes the league of super villians to a league of super assasins seems even worse...again, they totally missed a chance at a cool super villian movie so they could give us another lame assasin movie. I'm sure this is better than HITMAN, but it sorta seems like the same thing?

They started writing the movie after only 1 issue. The script was probably finished waaay before the comic. Plus it was pretty doubtful a big studio would make movie about sociopaths without any redeemable qualities, plus retard "superman" and shit guy.

Wow, didn't know that.

Hahahahahah, yeah, hard to imagine either one of them, by themselves on the screen, let alone together. The shit guy was just way over the top...maybe someday in a TROMA video!

Well, I knew after reading the first issue that any adaptation of this story would be drastically different than the comic book. It just had to be. I thought it was interesting what they kept, and what they left out. Not surprised about any of the choices they made though.

I thought it was OK for what it was. It was an entertaining action popcorn flick, and I'll probably see it again, if only for the big gunfight at the end.

I'm not a James McAvoy fan, and this flick didn't sell me on him.

Jolie's wierd boney feet were creepy. Her skeletal figure in general was creepy, but she still certainly has a lot of power on screen, and demands your attention.

I really enjoyed the weapon designs too, and also felt they needed to focus a little more on the hardware and a lot less on the "training" then they did. But, I dig prop guns.

:)

If any of you guys like the characters from the comic, you may enjoy a little slice of fucked up heaven called Gozu. Horrifically disturbing in the strangest ways you could imagine. I was forcing the vomit back down for like 45 minutes.

I'm still trying to get rid of the images stuck in my head from Terror Firmer.....holy crap.
