"Departures" by Jōjirō Takita

Recommended Posts

Hello forum,

our RAWunion at FedCon showed us that we share much more than a common appreciation of Thomas's work. We spent much time together, speaking about life, work, art and death. Here especially we have one movie in common that marked us and that we named simultaneously 😳

We'd like to share it here in case you haven't seen it. It's "Departures", from the year 2009.

It treats with much tactfulness and even humor of a difficult topic: the loss of a family member or friends and the process of mourning, seen from an "external" point of view. In some way it reminded us of Six Feet Under, but in a movie format, so more depth in the description of the feelings. There is no self pity in this movie and the goal is not to make the audience cry.

It takes place in Japan, meaning gorgeous images, purity of movements, great traditions and respect towards the deads.

We loved it!
