It turns out that Tom was at the Cooperstown event to honor the film 61*:

"Also present were NBC sportscaster Bob Costas, Thomas Jane, who played Mantle and currently stars in the HBO series, "Hung," ..."

"The HBO movie was released in 2000. HBO President Ross Greenberg was co-executive producer along with Crystal, and was also honored by the Hall of Fame, along with actor Thomas Jane, who played Mickey Mantle in the movie..."

"Imitating baseball

Actor and comedian Billy Crystal donated a number of artifacts from his HBO film "61*" to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., last week.

This year marks the 49th anniversary of Roger Maris' record-setting 61 home run season in 1961.

Crystal is the director and executive producer of "61*," which aired on HBO in April 2001. The baseball museum currently is holding its fifth annual Baseball Film Festival.

Among the items Crystal donated for the exhibit was his film's bound shooting script, along with story boards and the Yankees jersey and helmet worn by actor Thomas Jane, who portrayed Maris."

Here's the link to a blogger's account of the event: "Billy is so funny and so was the star, Thomas Jane, who played Mickey Mantle. Then after that, Billy, Thomas, the screenwriter and the producer came and sat in the audience with us and we all watched the movie together. Great movie."

That's so cool that Tom was able to attend. (Though I have no idea how he managed to find the time.) I love many of TJ's movies, but 61* is ultimately one of my major favorites.

It sounded like such a fun event; I wish I could've gone.
