  1. Now that I think of it... There's also the movie Lola that I would highly recommand. Pretty sure Chris Sue and Al would like it. It's a movie from the Philippines from 2009. As far as I know Lola means Grandmother. There are so many layers in this movie: the setting is a slum in Manila, so you get to discover the very simple life of the main characters. There's also the son in prison and the death of someone as the starting point of the movie, so a bit of crime. And there are the relations between the characters and the short term/long term implications of one's actions on her/his life and the one of others. Here also, my recommandation! See you around, Ariane
  2. Hello forum, our RAWunion at FedCon showed us that we share much more than a common appreciation of Thomas's work. We spent much time together, speaking about life, work, art and death. Here especially we have one movie in common that marked us and that we named simultaneously We'd like to share it here in case you haven't seen it. It's "Departures", from the year 2009. It treats with much tactfulness and even humor of a difficult topic: the loss of a family member or friends and the process of mourning, seen from an "external" point of view. In some way it reminded us of Six Feet Under, but in a movie format, so more depth in the description of the feelings. There is no self pity in this movie and the goal is not to make the audience cry. It takes place in Japan, meaning gorgeous images, purity of movements, great traditions and respect towards the deads. We loved it!

Well Gail, I'll leave the Veil entirely to you. Take good care of yourself, you never know what might happen.
  4. Thank you so much RAW friends! Yes my day is great so far: the school of my oldest son is closed today so I have no other possibilities than to have a day off work, enjoying biking and swimming with him. I feel terrible ... for the others ! Mwhahaha !

Oh la la. Here I admit I've reached my limits. I saw only the first half of the film. Second half I was buried under a cushion. TJ's great, especially the "DVD watching scene" where you can feel the tension raising and really read his mind. Feel his ambivalence. All with his eyes and hand. Great scene. Now I don't want to reveal too much. Just a question: does he have long hairs in Standoff and Before I wake due to upcoming shoot of the Expanse? Was Miller already in planning at that time? Good night!

Anthony Daniels has rocked the auditorium. As we say in Germany "he was the hammer" and "I was out of my socks" It was really clear that he has practized this excerice for a long time. Being on a stage, playing his role is his dream situation. At the same time, a certain improvisation was possible since he interacted with the fans and reacted accordingly. Respect. Basically it was a one hour monologue, he explained anecdots from the past 43 years and now and then he asked the fans a question or took a question. He started by thanking us because since 3 generations we are paying for his salary He explained that during one of the first scenes on Tatoïn, R2D2 would no stop at the end of the scene and rammed him twice in the legs coming from behind. The third time, Anthony moved aside and let R2D2 fall down the stairs... he played this on stage with a fan dressed as R2D2. He answered also to the question what was his favorite line. The most often spoken were "oh dear" and "we are doomed". But his favorite is explaining to Han that the Ewoks will have a banquet in C3PO's honor (they think he is a god) and eat him. He explained how he got the role: first meeting, he didn't care (he wanted to be a serious theater actor! Not play in an unknown SF kind of movie) but met G. Lucas and say the C3PO's drawings and fell in love. Second meeting he was really nervous then! He explained that G. Lucas cast several people for his voice before accepting/admitting, that his own voice was the best. He explained how he fell due to an uneven floor during the last take of ??? (the empire strikes back?). The C3PO costume was ruined. Fortunately, the general take was finished and they just had a close-up to make. So the decision was quickly taken to cut the costume in half and let him play with just the mask and the shoulder part on ! He was great. It was an honor to see/meet him. In the evening he went out and in of the lobby catching a taxi to have dinner downtown. Always grinning. I believe he really enjoys his life and meeting the fans.

    Standoff

But what about the bullet? Now I cannot sleep either what did we miss? How did you understand it?
  10. I was wondering right now if we have a rule about spoilers? My guess is, spoilers are allowed because we're here to discuss details, plots, incoherences or great moves. At the same time, I am grateful Tom did not reveal anything in the news. So I don't want to steal any surprises from anyone. Am I right?

    Standoff

Good evening forum, We just watched Standoff! *spoilers ahead* It was not at all what I expected! I was expecting a classic action movie I guess. I had only seen the DVD cover and TJ's "shooting diary" in the news section. I explicitly did not read this thread. I have to thank Tom for not telling too much. Actually not saying anything important about the plot, while making it enjoyable to read for his fans This movie surprised me with the theatrical setting and tension in the dialogues. Really liked it, except at some specific moments the music. A tod too sweet and syrupy. And we didn't get the point with that last bullet It is frustrating. If someone could explain? Was it a blank? If Carter had known it he would have acted differently. You notice first during the BTS extras, how cold it must have been during the shooting! Tom with just a loose t-shirt and the girl in a summer dress. It must have been difficult. I had to laugh internally because I had just seen today Tom's Q&A for DBS where some guy asked what's the best shooting sort? Not too wet? Not too cold? Not spending 3 weeks sitting at exactly the same spot in a staircase ? but yeah you know, it's kind of like working. You don't get to choose. Now my dear husband is completely stuck on the last song in the final credits. A UK singer apparently who was raised in Greece and Australia... it seems he's heard it somewhere in another movie and now will not be able to sleep the whole night... From my viewpoint, I honestly and respectfully "don't care" about this singer. I have spent 90 minutes watching TJ protect a little girl against great angry Fish and I am happy.

I'm equipped but will need to send you a cloud link since it's impossible to post pictures in here right? Anyway it's better to have a second pair of eyes since I will be prone to making too many pictures... I guess.

Yeah! Greetings to all of you! I plan on arriving on Saturday around 09:30. Just in time for Anthony Daniels's panel. You'll recognize me thanks to the RAW T-Shirt
  15. you two really fit well together.
  16. Ha ha, quoting TJ from the DBS anniversary "it's almost like working!". Like his sense of humor very much.
  17. Wow Geoff you are a hell of a source! How do you find all this? And thanks unknown dude!

    Tsunami LA

Yep! Just saw the part of the video. So there won't be a "Tsunami LA" rash on the right cheek after all.
  19. They both look great indeed! Wish I had been there...
  20. Great team picture! And I like the one guy still working in the background while the others parteeeyyyy !!!
  21. Yes I thought so. Well actually this was a question I had already thought of for the next Q&A in a few months. So at the moment it takes place the filming will be finished and Tom will be able to look back and reflect for us I understand that refusing a great project "just" because of time constraints is even more frustrating than having 3 over the top busy months.
  22. How does "preparation work" take place in this case? I guess it'll be either frustrating or tiring. Very probably both! With an exhausted actor in the fall.

    Salvage

Hey Geoff, do you have any idea what's the timeline here? How long would pre shoot rehearsals usually go?
  24. This one had lots of personal aspects and thoughts. Wow. About our civilisation, his problem with boats (shooting salvage will not be funny. But I guess on a river it's ok?). About social media. And Cat meowed once really nice interview!
  25. Hello, It seems I am very much into podcasts lately... I found this one (haven't heard it through yet though) and it doesn't seem to be in the forum. https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/syfy-wire/the-churn/e/49277935?autoplay=true Have fun!
