Here you go Fred, I needed a good warm up piece today so I thought I'd do this and help with the sales pitch...hey, if TJ can do it with Hex, why not you? It's not a photo but I think I captured the likeness.

Posted this on myspace and have gotten some pretty interesting inquiries/complements as to who the talented mofo is who did it. You are the MAN!

Very nice classic marvel vibe you have there. Love to see some more line art from you. I love your digital work, but I really live and breath the black and white. smile.gif

Or, in this case, the black and pale yellow.

Thanks Noeland, I love line art too. I've always enjoyed using colouróbut I'm really a black and white diehard. Having said that, I've noticed that (in general) folks don't seem to respond to the black and white stuff as much as the colour, so in light of that I've been experimenting with different techniques...

Using China Marker, as well as thinking about light, shape and value as opposed to "outline".

This study illustrates my point...

The Superman on the left (broken down using a photoshop filter) is a more visually "coherent" allocation of value. The one on the right is rooted more in the idea of line and flourish. While I still intend to incorporate some detail and "flair" I want to be mindful of the overall visual impact of my black and white work... even to the point of not referring to it as "line art" unless creating an outline image (clipart, etc.) is my intention.

Hopefully, I can develop a style that will satisfy both my love of the purity of black and white art, but will allow me to expand the overall impact (and appeal) of the stuff I'm doing...

Here is a rendering I did in pen and ink of St. Michael based on the statue in Paris. This is just one element of a T-shirt design I'm working on.

I had a blast doing this, and also rendering the two demons set to either side of this.

St. Michael is a story I just love, and a character I enjoy seeing pop up in various comics, films, and Tv shows.

I'll be writing him into a comic myself this weekend.

Beautiful! And this is just one element of a t-shirt? Whoa! Will the shirts be available for purchase?

Thank you. It's the main element, but the demon/gargoyle/lion statues that sit on either side of this in Paris will also be in the design, as well as a halo in the background with rays emanating from it.

It'll be fore sale, yes, though not through me. I'm sure I can provide a link or something later on though.

I love this style. Nice clean, crisp lines and shapes. The image really pops in that way that makes your eyes feel good when you look at it.

Sketchbook stuff only right? Well this is quite literally the newest sketch in my sketchbook. Spent an hour on it last night.

Yeah, I think we went a bit past sketchbook stuff, so feel free to post more than that if you'd like.

I dig that sketch though. Nice work.

Will do. I've spent the last several days turning Doss into one of my soldiers since that seems to be a theme around here. I'm fussing with it too much I'm sure, but the cammo pattern has been driving me crazy. I find it difficult to do believable cammo and not lose linework in the process.
